Josh Ritter - Best For The Best
Live on New Year’s Eve 2011
A song that Josh Ritter sang last night. Dude. He started it out by saying that he wrote the song after learning that the University of Idaho (Ritter grew up in Idaho) was responsible for graduating Sarah Palin. Was made even better by the angry conservative sitting in the row in front of us.
Video was not shot by me, is actually from his show the night before the one I went to. Audio is not super great, but not terrible. Worth a listen.
Sarah
Silly me, I did believe, that our love would last forever.
I won’t forget the night we spent
and how you stole my reindeer sweater.
ooooooh
What happened to the girl I knew?
Underneath those glasses, is it you ?
<spoken>
I was working on a bridge to this song…
I got hundreds of millions of dollars of federal funding.
Bridge to Nowhere…

Hope that all your dreams come true.
They’ll make you queen of all Alaska,
and you’ll remember you know who,
and we’ll live happy ever after.
Oooh, just me and the girl I knew.
Underneath those glasses it’ll still be you.
Dude keeps writing funny songs. Between this and Galahad, I was laughing til it hurt.

Chris Thile playing Josh Ritter’s “Another New World” at a recent solo show in Dublin, Ireland.
All descriptors of place and person aside, this is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen- bar none. The sweeping musicality, movement and narrative arc of both lyric and music are absolutely stunning. Not only that, but Thile delivers the composition with passion, intimacy and verve.
Adjectives fail me.
Actors Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski (Dwight and Jim from the office) introduce Josh Ritter in New York!
