The heat was coming on hard now, and sweat ran over his brow and into his eyes before continuing down his face and neck in the long, dusty canals that had already been carved by his tears.

This was the fortune I found in my after-dinner fortune cookie yesterday before our show at Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham, AL. Josh taped it to the cover of his copy of Bright’s Passage. And then made me get up on stage during “Rattling Locks” to play sticks, lest I suffer the consequences and piss off the fortune cookie gods. Fair enough.

This girl looked as if some giant from one of her own stories had stooped down and whispered the world’s largest, worst secret in her ear.

Josh Ritter at Left Bank Books

I won’t go into reviewing Ritter’s Off Broadway show, mainly because it’s been covered so thoroughly already (spoiler alert, it was really great). Instead, I thought I’d share some shots from Ritter’s book signing at Left Bank Books - a great independent bookstore located in the heart of downtown St. Louis. Ritter answered questions about his novel Bright’s Passage, signed copies for fans, and generally mingled with music and book nerds alike - he’s quite the crowd-pleaser, even without the music.

Here’s a little project I’ve been working on for the past month. Josh asked some friends of his to help him read the first chapter of Bright’s Passage on camera. Here’s a quick note from Josh about the idea and the world premier of the video on EW.com.

EDIT: I handled all the camera duties for the clips of Sam, Zach, and Liam!

Josh’s debut novel is in stores today! Go get it from your favorite bookstore, Amazon (Kindle version or hard copy), or Itunes. Not convinced by the cold sell? Don’t worry - that’s why we made the entire first chapter available for free download.

Josh did a wonderful interview for yesterday’s All Things Considered on NPR.

He also performed a special set with the mighty Neil Gaiman last Friday. Stream the almost 3-hour show here. It includes guests such as Adam Savage (Mythbusters) and Wil Wheaton (Stand By Me, Star Trek: TNG, & fellow Redditor) and Bill Corbett & Kevin Murphy, who you know as the brains and comedy behind Mystery Science Theater 3000.

This is a big week for us. And next week we head out on tour. I’ll be at all of the dates besides the book readings (I think). So come see us, buy the book directly from me if you please. And be on the lookout for some hot new merch that I’ve got lined up.
